They do not sit in a hot, temperature uncontrolled area for months (sometimes up to 18 months) before being shipped to the store where they can sit another few months depending on the quantity the store purchases. 

There will always be the chicken vs chicken meal debate. The reason Life's Abundance uses specific meals (stay away from non-specifics like a general "meat meal" or "poultry meal," is that whole chicken or chicken parts naturally contain a fair amount of water. They use chicken meal because most of the water has been removed, making it a concentrated source of protein. This means that there is a greater “protein content” in one pound of chicken meal versus one pound of whole chicken or chicken parts. This is the same for turkey vs turkey meal, etc. The next time you are at a store looking at frozen chicken, take a look at how much additional water they added. That's even worse! Life's Abundance does not use by-products and that is another thing you want to stay away from...when a company says chicken by-product meal. Do not confuse chicken meal with chicken by-product meal.
